We provide a variety of services and events help women and girls build each other up instead of tearing each other down.
We have a set topic and open ended questions relating to that topic for discussion. Our goal is to identify ways a woman is being torn down instead of lifted up. The group discusses suggestions of how to navigate or aid this mindset. Past topics have been: building self esteem, loving our bodies as they are, advertising depictions of women, and homemaker vs employed. We encourage all points of view and experiences.
We offer online meetings for those lovely ladies who are near and far. When a topic is buzzing we utilize Google Hangouts for an impromptu meeting.
Every other month we have a meeting to discuss a book that focuses on women’s empowerment. Our first book was How to be a Woman by Catlin Moran, a very funny look at puberty and relationships our second book is Bad Feminist by Roxane Gay.
Every other month we use these nights to connect with women, share stories, and empowering them to complete something they might not have been able to do on their own. At the end of the session they can take their craft home or gift it.
Gal’s Guide is partnering with Directed By Women to contribute to the World-Wide Viewing Party to celebrate women directors September 10, 2016.
