About Chris’ Book

Tales from a Broken Girl

You hear it all the time…”I’m fine!” “We’re doing great!” Sometimes, it’s true. A lot of times, it’s BS. Because no one likes to admit their lives are a mess.

“Tales From a Broken Girl” is me doing just that, admitting my life is one, massive, hot mess! But it’s also my way of cleaning it up instead of just sweeping it all under the rug.

These are the things that piss me off. These are the things that make me cry. But these are also the things that gave me hope and helped me move on from feeling “broken” to learning to live with the cracks.

Also, I cuss a lot.

About the Author

Chris Dean writes from the heart of Indiana where they live with their husband, two dogs and too many cats to mention.

Chris started writing poetry in 2018 as a way to make sense out of life’s ups and downs. They began sharing their work in 2022 as a way to foster connections between other “broken” people and to contribute to the community they discovered through in-person events.

Their work has been featured online at Fevers Of the Mind, Cajun Mutt Press, The Raven’s Perch and Flying Island as well as multiple print anthologies. Their debut book of poetry, “Tales From a Broken Girl,” was released in September of 2023 from Storeylines Press.

Skye Nicholson

unexpected alchemy

In Unexpected Alchemy, poet Skye Nicholson shares her journey of recovery—and empowerment—after ending 25 years of alcohol abuse. Her poems are filled with soaring language, fraught memories, and poignant images of motherhood and self-acceptance. Readers will discover a remarkable empathy from poems that effortlessly invite nature, relationships, and presence. Paired with artful designs by illustrator Cheryl Liz Byers, Skye’s words evoke a courageous and raw honesty that illuminates how decades of addiction and shame can dissolve through vulnerability, compassion and self-love.

the other side of the stars

In her second full-length poetry collection, Skye Nicholson takes readers on a journey of self-discovery and healing that is at once both deeply personal and wholly universal. Her poems feel like having brunch and shopping for crystals with your best friend. Through her magical, sparkling free-verse, Skye takes our hearts in her hand and leads us into topics such as grief, awe, loneliness, and unconditional love. No matter your age or gender, you will leave this book feeling inspired, spent, and deeply understood.

About the Author

Columbus poet Skye Nicholson started writing after finding sobriety in 2018. Poetry was the catalyst that shook the dust out of Skye’s shadows and aired her newly open soul in the sunlight.  Her poetry has been described as “magical…a gorgeous work of soulful inspiration,” and was given Five Stars by Readers Favorite. In 2021, Skye became a certified Empowerment Coach through This Naked Mind Institute and formed Soul’s Truth Coaching, LLC, an empowerment coaching service for women, so that she may offer assistance to others as they regain control over alcohol. You can find Skye hosting Open Mic Poetry Night the second Thursday of each month at Hotel Indigo in Columbus, IN, and at her website www.soulstruthcoaching.com.
