Meet the New Gal in Town!
Hi! I’m Leah! I’m the founder and Executive Director of Gals Guide. You might have seen Tracy Brigg’s Forum article about me. Or maybe Chris Flynn’s video.
I moved to Moorhead, MN to be near my son who is attending MSUM and because the Land of the Lakes was calling me back home. I was born in Minnesota. My parents are native Minnesotans. I’m also related to Gratia Countryman, a national-known librarian with the Minneapolis Library System.
I started Gals Guide in Indiana in 2016 where it was better known as Gals Guide Library. We won a few really cool awards and meet even cooler people. Gals Guide was the first independent women’s history lending library in the United States.
When I moved to Moorhead, MN I bought the Gals Guide books with me but also the idea that Gals Guide could evolve and spread more ripples of positive change. I wanted to create a meaningful place to show how women’s history can be a tool for a better life. So I’ve opened the Gals Guide Minnesota Classroom, a space for women’s history classes. The books have evolved too, now they are a resource collection instead of a lending library.
But that means I can pair down the collection and offer some amazing books for sale to the community! Books, coffee, and hugs are my love language.
Come see me, the classroom, and ALL the books!
