Buddha Friends

Where you can be with your Buddhist friends

A fun and joyful meetup that holds space open to check in with each other, connect with how Buddhism is arising in us, share dharma discussions, and drop into a mindful meditation together. We offer prayer requests, Buddhist holiday gatherings, book lending, and birthday celebrations. Plus we have “Om” Nom Noms which are usually cookies.

What happens at a Buddha Friends meetup?
1) We check in with each other. In-person meetups have cookies!
2) We share what dharma connections we’ve recently experienced, seen, or heard about
3) We have a dharma discussion
4) Prayer requests are read
5) We have a 20-40 minute mindful meditation based on the needs of the group.
6) We spread joy and compassion

Let’s be Buddha Friends

You don’t even have to identify as a Buddhist. If you would like to be around Buddhists and a compassionate, mindful mindset, you are welcome.

Our lineage connection

Buddha Friends is also called the Indiana Sangha. We are an official Global Sangha Member of Tara Mandala. We focus on the sacred feminine in Buddhism. We are of the tradition of Vajrayana Buddhism. Our lineage links to a female yogini the 11th Century Tibet.

Prayer Request

Buddha Friends read aloud prayer requests at our weekly (in-person) and monthly (online) meetups. Prayers are read before our mindful meditation session. You may request prayers for yourself, a loved one, or a world situation. You may also request prayers from Tara Mandala.

Buddha Friends Leader

Riwo has been a Buddhist practitioner for over 30 years. She volunteers at The Human Library where she is “The Buddhist Book”. She has studied Zen Buddhism as well as Tibetan Buddhism. Her root teacher is Lama Tsultrim Allione, the first American woman to become a Tibetan Lama. Lama bestowed upon Leah the dharma name Riwo Rinchen which translates to “Mountain of Jewels”. Riwo is a student of the Magyu: The Mother Lineage. She is married with two wonderful children. She loves Star Wars, women’s history, and laughter.

Dakinis

There are five Dakini’s in Tibetan Buddhism that are equal to Buddha’s. They are the embodiment of female wisdom and each one can help you with different poisons in your life. By meditation, ritual, and instruction these Dakini’s can turn poisons into wisdom. Buddha Friends has a monthly Dakini practice we do from the book Wisdom Rising. More info can also be found on a Podcast episode about Dakini’s, and an Art project about Buddha Dakini
